Pinto beans.
And other dried beans. Good sources of protein.
They have a long shelf life if stored properly. Rice lasts almost forever and should be bought now. In bulk.

I've also seen videos of people who ate WW2 rations and did fine -- and other far outdated canned goods.

Prepping paints a bullseye on your home. Survival skills are more important: get in shape, learn to grow and store food, hunt, trap, fish, cook pioneer food, bury caches of supplies and weapons, combat 101, first aid, forming a group, as lone wolves won't survive. Survival will require letting go of your home as stationary abodes will all be ransacked. Military personnel will go rogue and form gangs as will police. Survival will require staying on the move, as there will be no permanently safe location. This will be the new normal for maybe a century or two. The worst case scenario is materializing.

Do not tell your neighbors about your pinto bean stash. Every responsible adult should have three months food and supplies on hand. Especially after the covid run on the markets, having food on hand is vital. What about water and a way to warm your home if you live in Northern areas. Keep reading about rolling brown outs. Learning skills and learning how to think is very important. People are trained to think the stores will always be open with abundant supplies, future is looking bleak for Walmart having full shelves. Learn now to make do.

The San Joaquin Valley used to be the breadbasket of the world until the never-ending reset boys hooked up with developers and politicians to terraform the super-rich alluvial soil from farmland to housing tracts. The small farms of yesterday are gone. What hasn't been paved over is occupied by globalist monster single-crop grids that stretch for hundreds of miles as you travel up interstate 5. The globocrops are allocated for other nations. Between the globocrops and the Mexican housing tracts, available farmland from the good ol days is, like Antarctica and the North Pole, off limits to Americans who now buy beef from Argentina and produce from Mexico and South America. The California that John Steinbeck wrote about in The Grapes of Wrath and East of Eden and Cannery Row are gone with the wind without a bullet fired.

The US and Europe are in the bullseye of the reset target.
The elites have been warning us about the coming food crisis, and we should always take their predictions seriously.
You can buy buckets of SHTF foods online, maybe at your local grocery store.
(Note to RM: take a shopping list next time you go around the Walmartians.

Canning supplies are also available everywhere.
Potatoes, green beans, and squash are ready to harvest at the grav homestead.
No, I don't enjoy cooking or putting food in glass jars. But I will be doing some of that in the next few days and weeks.
Green beans will be packed "raw" and pressure-cooked and put away for the possible hard times.
We still have frozen corn from last year. This year we may need to can it instead of freezing, in case the grid is taken down by a "solar flare" "EMP" or "meteor storm" or even a "comet."
Or maybe a Chinese attack.
My money is on a Zombie apocalypse. Because I see them everywhere. They wear masks.

On a serious note, we have also planted sweet potatoes in the big garden and in my hugelkultur pots. Big pots can grow lots of crops. And they prevent damage by rabbits, voles, slugs, other hungry critters.
Remember this scene from Gone With the Wind, when Scarlet is reduced to grubbing up a raw tuber to eat?

The USA is the main target. Grab the gunz, shoot needles into veins, holodomor. I'm sure Canada is faring better. Ukraine is a dog and pony show.

Don't kid yourself.. the government, or I should say the Davos gang and their minions, including the US military, are prepping like there's no tomorrow. We already know they are stashing long tons of food and other goods in their myriad underground hidey holes; now we learn they are also filling up Missouri caves with cheese. Don't try to explore these caves; they are, like Antarctica and the North Pole, off limits to you and me. Have you noticed that finding high-quality cheese in stores is next to impossible?

The South may be the least bad place to hang tough.
Rednecks (old school boys who can fix stuff) will get an attitude adjustment right away.
Family comes first. Everything else comes last.

The above applies to the US, UK and Europe, which are toast. Canada, especially your area, will fare better but not better enough. The US southern border is open to let in hardened predators who grew up under hardship. They will have easy pickings in the flabby, dumb, lazy US.

I believe prepping for SHTF is a risky move, unless you can do it in an extremely stealthy way. When the roving bands of hungry marauders move across the apocalyptic land, they will be searching for prepper homes to overwhelm and steal whatever they find useful inside, such as food, water, clothing, medicine, guns and ammo and knives, and maybe young women for sex. They may kill and eat the preppers, depending on their current needs. Therefore, the only prepper home which may be passed over, is the one which gives no appearance of being well-stocked or even marginally maintained . You would need to trash your own home's exterior and make it look like a dump with nothing of value inside. But even that may not save you, because that strategy will become known to all quickly.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

In the times of sailing ships ,shipwrecks were common along with cannabilism.
When stories got back to civilization  there was no condemnation  as this was a normal occurrence..
If I was dead I wouldn't  mind if I was eaten .
Humans or bugs one or the other will recycle  me.
To be killed for my body parts thats a different  thing.
